Adopt a Bengal (short coat)

Jasper was rescued from St John the Baptist Animal Control in December 2016 with a badly broken hip. He has the most beautiful green eyes. He has dark, round spots, and some of his spots are hollow. He has a golden colored undercoat that is very soft. Jasper has undergone orthopedic surgery to repair his hip with a titanium plate and 7 screws.  Jasper has fully recovered from his surgery, but he does still walk a little odd because of the metal in his hip. When there is a bad storm coming, or the weather affects his joints, Jasper does move more stiffly then usual. The vet said he may develop arthritis in his hip over time. Jasper does not like to be picked up at all. Bengals in general are not lap cats, and do not like to be held. Jasper does enjoy to have his head and neck rubbed, and to be petted, but only on his terms. Jasper will come to you and meow if he wants attention. If Jasper is not in a mood to be touched, then he will find a spot up high on the fridge or cabinets, or sit on the window ledge, and he just wants to be left alone. Because Jasper does not like to be held and restrained, he is very difficult to trim his nails. He does get angry the longer you spend trying to trim his nails. You can not pick him up hold him to trim his nails. Instead, you must go to him when he is sitting on the table or counter-top and let him stay there. It will take two people, one to pet him and keep him from leaving, and the other to quickly and carefully trim his nails. He does yank his paw back and scream at you when you attempt to trim his nails. He will bite if you continue to trim them after he thinks you should be done. It is best to only do the front paws one day, and the back paws another day.  Jasper must NEVER be declawed! A cat's first defense is their claws, and their second defense is their teeth. Bengals already have a propensity to bite when they are not happy. So if you declaw them, you are only insuring that they will become a biter anytime they are not happy. Bengals can already be wild cats, because they do have wild cat in their bloodline. Jasper must go to a home with NO children that live there, and NO children that visit there!  Jasper is litter box trained. However, because is is a Bengal, he does spray the back door when a strange cat comes in the backyard. He may not spray very often if you do not have any other animals that he feels he needs to compete with for his territory, and as long as he is not stressed and having bladder issues (see below by the information on his food for more details).  Jasper must also never be allowed to go outside. He will go to the door and try to sneak out, so you must be careful that he doesn't get outside. There are too many dangers outside for cats, and especially for one that looks like a wild cat. He stands a better chance of being shot at, or even stolen, then any other domestic cat. Jasper would do best in a home with very few, or no cats, and only one or no dogs. If you are interested in adopting Jasper, please do your research on Bengal cats before applying and be sure that you know what you are getting yourself in for.  We will be screening extra carefully with this cat, and we would prefer someone who already has experience with Bengal cats.

Our purebred Bengal adoption fee is $300.00 which helps to defray only a small part of the expense of the vet care we have already done. He has had hip surgery and has a titanium plate & 7 screws holding his hip together, he is neutered, microchipped, combo tested negative, vaccinated, and has been dewormed and is on flea prevention. 

CURRENT FOOD: Science Diet C/D Urinary dry cat food. Jasper, like most Bengals, are prone to anxiety. When Jasper gets stressed, his bladder gets inflamed causing him to have blood in his urine, which he shows us by peeing outside the box. As long as his bladder is not bothering him, he will use the litter box.
